1,750 Color Names

ArtyClick Color Shades and Names Dictionary is a collection of over 1,750 color names. This color dictionary was created by combining and analyzing data from various sources. The data was processed using a method that ensures that each color name in the dictionary corresponds to a unique color value, and that no two colors have the same name. The dictionary covers a wide range of colors and can be used to find a close match for most colors that are not in the dictionary.

Color Groups

The presented color space is split into 8 color groups: red, orange, yellow, green, aqua (or cyan), blue, purple, and magenta (pink). In each group, there are 4 categories related to color brightness and saturation: vivid (light), vivid dark, pastel, and pale (pastel) dark. Vivid colors are colors that have high saturation and brightness, meaning they are very pure and bright. For example, bright red, yellow, and green are vivid colors. Dark vivid colors are colors that have high saturation but low brightness, meaning they are very pure but dark. For example, dark purple, blue, and brown are dark vivid colors. Pastel colors are colors that have low saturation and high brightness, meaning they are very diluted and light. For example, light pink, peach, and ice are pastel colors. Dark pale colors are colors that have low saturation and brightness, meaning they are very diluted and dark. For example, dark gray, clay, and khaki are dark pale colors.

Individual Colors

In the ArtyClick dictionary, each color is provided with its respective shades (adding black), tints (adding white), and tones (varying saturation by adding or subtracting grey). There are also recommendations on color combinations provided by an ArtyClick algorithm. Similar colors are also listed to encourage color exploration.
